台北論壇基金會董事長蘇起10日表示，美國大選後，中美將進入磨合期，中美台三角關係必會改變，雙方衝突和交易會層出不窮，接下來勢必「相當熱鬧」，但大致上中美將維持既競爭又合作的模式。他並稱，台灣整體國安情勢正惡化中，建議蔡政府全盤檢討台灣在東亞的定位。前國安局長蔡得勝則說，在「川普至上」考量下，「棄台論」會否成為氣候，值得關注。

在戰略層面上，蘇起表示，重中之重仍在川普對美中關係的態度，美國內部正對美中關係進行激辯，沒有定論；「亞洲再平衡」能否持續也有疑問，但就算能，新政府的力道與預算落實也是大問題。

前國安會祕書長蘇起表示，對台灣而言，衝擊最明顯的是經濟面，TPP（《跨太平洋戰略經濟夥伴關係協定》）恐會取消，大陸主導的RCEP（《區域全面經濟夥伴關係協定》）台灣也不得其門而入，我國與他國簽署貿易協定可能性也不大，在兩岸關係停滯之下，雙邊與多邊合作都無緣，台灣可能要靠自己。
